A World without walls
everyday life while homeschooling overseas
I sat down to add a few posts, and decided that most of them are so random that I would just put in a plethora of random pictures that pretty much sums up our week! :) We always have so much going on! It's huge amounts of fun, really, and I wouldn't trade it for anything, but it IS tiring sometimes. Anyway, we are still VERY thoroughly enjoying our science curriculum this semester! Wow! The lessons are SUPER in-depth with a really cool science experiment for every single lesson! It's something that everyone can participate in, and if they need to go deeper (Josh), they can, and if it's just learning science for fun (everyone), well, that's what we get! Today we added yeast to hydrogen peroxide and put a balloon on top to fill the balloon with oxygen. Then, we lit a little candle and put it inside a jar. We watched the candle 'eat up' all the oxygen and eventually die out a few times until the balloon was big enough to use. Then, I lit the candle, and stuck the end of the balloon inside of the jar and SLOWLY let the air out of it. It was really cool! The flame got REALLY bright! The kids really liked this experiment, and it was fun to talk about the components and composition of air. Now they know, that saying we breathe oxygen isn't 100% correct. Neat. Next up is this little excited face!! :) Why is Andrew so excited? Well, it's because we ALWAYS have people at our house! Last night we had 6 extra people at our FHE--from 3 different families! SO FUN! We played together, ate together, baked things together, learned together... And yes, maybe we stayed up a little late playing the game that Claire chose as her lesson (she was likening playing family games to 2 Nephi 2:25, telling us that we needed to have JOY so we should play games together as a family), but it was worth it! It worked, too, because I think we all felt a lot of JOY and looked like Andrew at the end of the busy day! :) OUCH!!!! Claire's salon class continues, and I donated my poor legs to science. Their practical/lab was to wax someone's legs. I have NEVER had my legs waxed, and I don't think I'll EVER do it again! But I was very brave and did not cry! But just LOOK at that sheer GLEE on my daughter's face as she spreads the wax on my legs getting ready to rip off some more of my skin...I mean hair... :D We finished another puzzle!! This one was SO fun and SO fast! A 1,000 piece puzzle of the American Revolution Era! I'm keeping it all together so I can get it framed, because it's REALLY cool! Claire and I are still loving our handicraft classes! The week before last, we made Easter cards, and last week we made the cutest bookmarks ever! This next week we're doing some flower arrangements! Woohoo! Claire continues her culinary adventures...last week was croissants! Holy cow! I have a great deal more respect for those little rolls. We made them twice...and it literally takes almost 9 hours from start to finish. Yah, that's not one we're going to do often... She also made pies. There was a bit of an incident, however, when she read 3/4 cup as 3-4 cups of cold water. It pretty much became soup! It was saved by adding a whole lot more flour, and ended up being deep dish pies, but everyone seemed to enjoy them, so it was a win! Which brings us to the end of this narrative. I suppose what it all boils down to is that life is full--full of friends, full of food, full of love and adventure and learning! This is what it is all about, right? I wouldn't have it any other way. I feel blessed and surrounded by God's Love every single day.

Emily's books
by Dan Brown
I like that the plot twists and turns a lot...and it makes you think. However, I don't appreciate Dan Brown's endings in his books. I find the endings incongruent with the rest of his stories--why make it a romance for the last chapter...

I loved this book. I'm a sucker for fairy tales/fantasy. This was so well written! I can't wait to read all the rest of her books!

I'm reading this one again. I liked it the first time I read it. I'm still liking it for the second time around. I like all of Shannon Hales' books.
**Still lots of fun the second time around! I do like this book for a comfortable...
