A World without walls
everyday life while homeschooling overseas
Today we had a pretty amazing opportunity...we got to help at a rice harvest!!! It was SO much fun! At first, I think we were all a little hesitant, since we'd never done it before, and no one seemed very keen on showing us what we needed to do. So we stood around a bit until we watched what they were doing, and then we all just jumped right in...literally! We trudged through those muddy paddies barefoot, and had the best time ever! Another family that we homeschool with came, and all the kids kept saying over and over again that it was the BEST field trip ever! :) I loved it! The kids were HUGE helpers, and everyone thought it was so cute at how much they helped. The best part was standing out in the fields and waving to all the people in the cars and buses that drove by. To the Sri Lankans, working in the rice paddies is a very low almost shameful job. And to look out into a rice field and see a whole bunch of foreigners--well it was definitely a novelty! All the people we were working with laughed a lot and said we would probably be in tomorrow's newspapers! Ha! The sun was hot, the mud was cool, the rice was scratchy, and we didn't see any leeches, cobras, or monitor lizards until after we had stopped working! Neat! They made a HUGE lunch for us and we enjoyed a large meal with lots of veggies for me. I'm glad we went. Sadly, I wasn't able to capture the boys taking 'baths' from a bucket in a well--so funny! And Josh wasn't able to come because he got sick in the morning, which was REALLY sad, because he could have taken MUCH better pictures than me! But, he slept pretty much all day, and seems to be feeling much better now. At least a little. I think we'll ALL be going to bed really early tonight! We are BEAT! A very happy tired group of people!

Emily's books
by Dan Brown
I like that the plot twists and turns a lot...and it makes you think. However, I don't appreciate Dan Brown's endings in his books. I find the endings incongruent with the rest of his stories--why make it a romance for the last chapter...

I loved this book. I'm a sucker for fairy tales/fantasy. This was so well written! I can't wait to read all the rest of her books!

I'm reading this one again. I liked it the first time I read it. I'm still liking it for the second time around. I like all of Shannon Hales' books.
