A World without walls
everyday life while homeschooling overseas
Another really fun thing about being in the states this summer is all the runs! We started off our running season doing the Teton Dam Marathon! No, we didn't run the marathon. The kids and I (and my mom) did the 5K, and it was SOOOO much fun! When we started, Josh and Andrew took off running. Claire kept a steady pace ahead of me. By the time we hit the one mile mark, Claire was walking and I had caught up to Josh (he was mostly walking, too). I passed them by and never saw them again, and I thought sure I'd pass by Andrew at some point, but no! I never caught up to that kid! He beat me by a full minute! Ha! And that was his FIRST run EVER! I'm super impressed. Looks like we have a runner to follow in Devin's footprints! Even Claire is now talking of wanting to work her way up to a real marathon! I have crazy kids. But for not having trained AT ALL, my kids did awesome! Andrew came in at 29 minutes, Josh came in at 32 minutes and Claire did it in 40! I was so proud! I did it in just over 30 minutes, and even came in 2nd in my age group!!!! Wow!! I even got a prize--they gave me a pair of socks! Neat. I have to admit, when I checked the computer and saw that I had come in 3rd in my age group, I actually teared up! Ha! And then, when I went over to claim my prize, they told me I actually got 2nd! Wow! I NEVER thought I'd place in a running race. Ever. It was REALLY weird to be in the 35-44 age group, but, hey, that's pretty cool! I'm an old running lady! :) I think that makes me an official runner! :) After the run, there were all sorts of booths set up--snacks for after, fun offers and games to play. We had a ball! The kids won candy, sunglasses, kites, waterbottles, frisbees, free games of mini golf, coupons for running stores...we just had a great time! We even stuck around to cheer on EVERY SINGLE LAST PERSON that ran that race! Claire, Andrew, and Peter were there at the finish line until the bitter end, ringing cow bells, clapping, screaming, whistling... I was SO proud of them! After having run, and seen how hard it was, they wanted to make sure that every person had people cheering them on at the finish line. So wonderful! It helped that the finish/start line was directly in front of my parent's house! :) It was a pretty spectacular event, and we can't wait for the next one!

Emily's books
by Dan Brown
I like that the plot twists and turns a lot...and it makes you think. However, I don't appreciate Dan Brown's endings in his books. I find the endings incongruent with the rest of his stories--why make it a romance for the last chapter...

I loved this book. I'm a sucker for fairy tales/fantasy. This was so well written! I can't wait to read all the rest of her books!

I'm reading this one again. I liked it the first time I read it. I'm still liking it for the second time around. I like all of Shannon Hales' books.
**Still lots of fun the second time around! I do like this book for a comfortable...
