Today we had a pretty amazing opportunity...we got to help at a rice harvest!!! It was SO much fun! At first, I think we were all a little hesitant, since we'd never done it before, and no one seemed very keen on showing us what we needed to do. So we stood around a bit until we watched what they were doing, and then we all just jumped right in...literally! We trudged through those muddy paddies barefoot, and had the best time ever! Another family that we homeschool with came, and all the kids kept saying over and over again that it was the BEST field trip ever! :) I loved it! The kids were HUGE helpers, and everyone thought it was so cute at how much they helped. The best part was standing out in the fields and waving to all the people in the cars and buses that drove by. To the Sri Lankans, working in the rice paddies is a very low almost shameful job. And to look out into a rice field and see a whole bunch of foreigners--well it was definitely a novelty! All the people we were working with laughed a lot and said we would probably be in tomorrow's newspapers! Ha! The sun was hot, the mud was cool, the rice was scratchy, and we didn't see any leeches, cobras, or monitor lizards until after we had stopped working! Neat! They made a HUGE lunch for us and we enjoyed a large meal with lots of veggies for me. I'm glad we went. Sadly, I wasn't able to capture the boys taking 'baths' from a bucket in a well--so funny! And Josh wasn't able to come because he got sick in the morning, which was REALLY sad, because he could have taken MUCH better pictures than me! But, he slept pretty much all day, and seems to be feeling much better now. At least a little. I think we'll ALL be going to bed really early tonight! We are BEAT! A very happy tired group of people!
I think I mentioned before: this never gets old! Josh had a photo shoot appointment to do family pictures for some neighbors at the beach, so I came along with Devin and the little boys so they could play. Sitting on the sand and watching the sun set is so glorious!! The little boys were happily playing, building forts and digging trenches and squealing at the tide as it rushed in and destroyed their handiwork. Dev and I chatted and discussed our week and our upcoming move. Such a peaceful place! Josh and I walked home together (Dev and the little boys took a tuk--we were about 2-3 miles away from home), and took more pictures of the 'after sunset' beauty. Just so lovely to be outside! A little outing with my first-born to find some PVC pipe. We didn't look conspicuous at all walking down the road with 2 12ft pipes between us...
Peter learned to ride a bike today! After telling us over and over for years how he was too scared to learn...he got on and took off on his first try. He was SO HAPPY! Yay Peter!
Our co-op is doing drama this semester. We're practicing to perform a play in May, and the kids are SO excited! As part of the play, the kids want to put in a choreographed dance and so they decided to learn some Kung fu moves to make their dance authentic! So neat! I love watching the learning and excitement going on!
Josh had homework in his photography class, so we went for a short walk over to the seashore by our house at sunset. Honestly, this NEVER gets old. |

Emily's books
by Dan Brown
I like that the plot twists and turns a lot...and it makes you think. However, I don't appreciate Dan Brown's endings in his books. I find the endings incongruent with the rest of his stories--why make it a romance for the last chapter...

I loved this book. I'm a sucker for fairy tales/fantasy. This was so well written! I can't wait to read all the rest of her books!

I'm reading this one again. I liked it the first time I read it. I'm still liking it for the second time around. I like all of Shannon Hales' books.
**Still lots of fun the second time around! I do like this book for a comfortable...
