A World without walls
everyday life while homeschooling overseas
Today was Claire's super special day. First, she got to go to the temple to do baptisms for the dead for the first time! After that, she received her patriarchal blessing from her great grandfather.
Devin and I went to do a session with my grandfather after that. It was so lovely! And now, I'm exhausted beyond all reason!
Church here doesn't start until 1pm, so we decided to make the best of our time and walk around some temples with the kids...and take some family photos! We had planned to go to three, but only made it to two. Such a lovely and glorious day!
First, we went to the Provo temple. The tulips there were SO gorgeous!
Our next stop was the Provo City Center temple. So cool! I've never seen this one before, so it was pretty cool. The old Provo tabernacle burned down, so they restored it into this:
So much beauty and peace! Good Sabbath, everyone!
We had the amazing opportunity to go to a Utah Symphony concert geared toward kids! It was super awesome--a play/concert all about the life and music of George Gershwin! The kids all enjoyed themselves, and I admit to tearing up when that clarinet solo at the beginning of Rhapsody in Blue came on!
Then we were supposed to go to a birthday party for a nephew...but we missed our train by 2 minutes! So we went to Temple Square and looked around a bit while waiting for the next train...
We eventually made it to the birthday party, which was fun! Then we came back and did a family service project (mowing the lawn and trimming apple trees), went out to eat at a buffet where we are ourselves silly, then came back for a pajama party! Hooray for family time!
Meet The Bluebird of Happiness--or, for short, The Bluebird!! I'm so spoiled! Devin got this car for me and the kids to putter around in while we're here! I LOVE it! It's SO cute!!!!
And here it is! It snowed overnight and stuck. We woke up to a winter wonderland. The kids' prayers have been answered. They couldn't wait to get out in it and play! We made them wait until 6 am to go outside...
The first snowman!
Our branch here plans a BIG branch activity every year for everyone. This year, we all went to Udawalawe National Park! It was SOOO much fun!! Our family got up at 1:30am and walked over to the church to meet everyone. We hopped on 2 big tour buses, and off we went! We were able to arrive at the park by 6:30am for our Jeep Safari, and it was spectacular! We saw elephants, crocodiles, peacocks, eagles, pelicans...birds of SO many varieties!! But mostly, we saw LOTS of elephants! There were herds and families with little babies! So cute!! Our jeep driver was a little...daring, and liked to race the other jeep drivers a LOT. I have to admit that there were times when I was rather terrified! But it was SO MUCH FUN!
After our safari, we headed to a 'watering hole' for some swimming to cool off. Oh, it was SOO hot! Everyone really enjoyed that!
Following our swim, we stopped for lunch at a local place and had some rice and curry and fish, then off we went home! We had a few little issues where our buses A/C stopped working...so they had to stop and fix it a few times! Gosh, it was SWELTERING inside that bus! Whew! But they managed just fine to get it up and going again, and we were only about 2 1/2 hours late getting home! Ha! Not too bad!! As soon as we arrived, we ran home where Dev and I showered as fast as possible because we had a dinner party to go to! Doh! We left the kids--the big kids with orders to put the littles to bed--and we took off for our dinner party. The food was amazing, the music was loud and fun, and it was good to see friends and chat, but my eyes kept closing! I was SO tired! So we were only able to stay about an hour. We came home late, and Claire was desperately trying to stay awake so she could say goodnight to us! Poor girl! The boys were already asleep. As soon as I hit the mattress, I was out cold. While it was crazily exhausting, man it was fun! It made for a really great April Fool's Day, and that's no joke! (he he)
Who Am I?
As a Stay At Home Mom of 4 wonderful children, I have the amazing opportunity not only to home school them, but to do so in many different places! I am married to the most amazingly wonderful (and handsome) man in the whole world! Together, we seek out, every day, that Joy in the Journey that makes life exciting!
by Dan Brown
I like that the plot twists and turns a lot...and it makes you think. However, I don't appreciate Dan Brown's endings in his books. I find the endings incongruent with the rest of his stories--why make it a romance for the last chapter...
I loved this book. I'm a sucker for fairy tales/fantasy. This was so well written! I can't wait to read all the rest of her books!
I'm reading this one again. I liked it the first time I read it. I'm still liking it for the second time around. I like all of Shannon Hales' books. **Still lots of fun the second time around! I do like this book for a comfortable...
