A World without walls
everyday life while homeschooling overseas
Sadly, our big Halloween party was canceled due to all the road blocks and protests. Eventually, they decided to have a low-key party where everyone could dress up. The kids were happy, because they worked so hard on their costumes this year! We also held a Halloween party at our house for us and our neighbors (since we weren't technically supposed to leave our houses). The kids all had so much fun! They decorated and planned a haunted house, passed out candy, and we played games. Not so bad.

There is a young lady in our ward who is leaving for a mission. Her dad is a musical guy and asked if I would perform a musical number with him on my clarinet for her farewell. Of course I said yes!! :) However, the cork on the top half of my clarinet body has been threatening to fall off for years. Sri Lanka did a number on my poor baby!! Luckily, since I knew it was coming, I was prepared and had purchased a kit for cork replacement. So when it finally fell off, while I was a bit freaked out, I figured I could make it right again. It took FOREVER, but I was finally able to make it look beautiful again! If this ever happens again, though, I hope I'm near an instrument repair shop so someone a little more professional than me can fix it. (Sadly, I never got to play the musical number. We got evacuated instead.) This is what protesting looks like in Bolivia. During the three weeks of protests and road blocks after the election, this is what we found at almost every intersection. I found it fascinating, though, that it was so peaceful! The people were so happy to be there! They sang songs and waved to us when we walked by. They were trying to show their feelings and their displeasure with their government in very peaceful ways. It was amazing to me to watch. There was an incredible feeling of unity! Life has definitely been interesting the past few days. People are very angry about the election last Sunday. There were apparently some riots downtown here in La Paz and in other cities around the country. I'm really curious to see if things will just calm down, or if it will get more heated? Only time will tell.
This has been my dream for so long!! My children playing together!! I was playing with them, too, but I had to stop and take a picture of it, because it's just so cool! Claire and I were playing some Celtic duets, and we played some Christmas music together. It was super fun and we have lots of plans to do more together! :)
These two always have SO MUCH FUN together! They're always baking and making inventive things for everyone...and there's always a lot of giggling coming from the kitchen! :) This time, they made a fudge pie and a real British Trifle! I heard nothing but super amounts of praise from everyone who got to eat these deliciously beautiful desserts! :) A lovely feast for British Day at our house. Conference Weekend is always fun. We eat a TON of candy...ok, the KIDS eat a ton of candy. They get rather silly, too...like sticking Pixie Stix up their nose and sleeping with giant plastic bags on their faces. Whatever. Besides, look who's finally home! It's so fun to have Josh home again after such a long time away! I went to the RS president's house to watch the Women's session and it was a lot of fun to be with my Bolivian sisters and listen to the announcements and exciting changes that are going on. I loved conference so much this session. I always do, but there was just something so very special about this one. I'm grateful to be a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. I'm grateful to be a woman and I know that I am a special daughter of God who loves me. Life is hard and full of trials and things that can make us cry, but there is peace in knowing who you are and in having made covenants in the temple and knowing that families are forever. <3 We have another teen in the house! Andrew is "FINALLY" a teenager (his words). For his birthday, he requested lasagna and 'beer' (Guarana soda), and a super cool cake that was layers of cinnamon rolls! Yum! We love this kid so much! He's smart and funny and dedicated. Can't wait to see what this next year will bring! :) Happy Birthday, Andrew! <3 |

Emily's books
by Dan Brown
I like that the plot twists and turns a lot...and it makes you think. However, I don't appreciate Dan Brown's endings in his books. I find the endings incongruent with the rest of his stories--why make it a romance for the last chapter...

I loved this book. I'm a sucker for fairy tales/fantasy. This was so well written! I can't wait to read all the rest of her books!

I'm reading this one again. I liked it the first time I read it. I'm still liking it for the second time around. I like all of Shannon Hales' books.
**Still lots of fun the second time around! I do like this book for a comfortable...
