A World without walls
everyday life while homeschooling overseas
We have some fun foods that we are quickly learning to love (and not be able to live without...which always makes it hard to leave a post...) They've had blood oranges in season lately and that's been super fun! We like to juice them and drink blood! Ha!! Then there's all the bananas... Mmmm...bananas from Lebanon... They're pretty small, but SO yummy! Once, for datenight, Devin and I bought a bunch of bananas and ate the whole thing before we got home! Ha! We went out and about and bought 4 giant sections of bananas and were able to make lots of banana bread. Oh, so yummy. I haven't been able to make really good banana bread since Cameroon, so this is a special treat! :) Another fun local thing that has fast become a favorite is dipping bread in Olive Oil and this local thyme/spice mix. I'm not EXACTLY sure what the mix has in it, but I can taste the thyme, lemon, salt and see the sesame seeds. Regardless, it's super yummy! Josh will eat 3-4 pieces of flatbread by dipping it in olive oil and the Palestinian Thyme (as they call it). I like to sprinkle it over fresh tomatoes or smoked salmon. Oh, it's divine! Other fun things is eating pomegranates for breakfast! I love watching Peter picking all the seeds out and popping them in his mouth. He loves pomegranate! And it's so cute to see all the red-stained fingers and mouths after eating them! :) They also have fantastic oranges, grapes, tomatoes, cucumbers...and, oh, the strawberries are coming into season now and you can find them lining the roads going into/out of Amman! Mmmmm.... I'm slowly learning the words I need in order to really haggle in Arabic, so within the next few months, I'll get it even cheaper! HA! Hopefully that skill will be well in hand when nectarine/peach/cherry season rolls around in a few months.... I'm drooling at the thought...

Emily's books
by Dan Brown
I like that the plot twists and turns a lot...and it makes you think. However, I don't appreciate Dan Brown's endings in his books. I find the endings incongruent with the rest of his stories--why make it a romance for the last chapter...

I loved this book. I'm a sucker for fairy tales/fantasy. This was so well written! I can't wait to read all the rest of her books!

I'm reading this one again. I liked it the first time I read it. I'm still liking it for the second time around. I like all of Shannon Hales' books.
