A World without walls
everyday life while homeschooling overseas
We took the back roads through PA. There were a few reasons for this: Number one, we like to avoid toll roads. Number two: we LOVE the rural views and all the trees and ups and downs! And best of all, you can really find some gems along the way! As we were meandering down Highway 30, we stumbled upon the memorial for Flight 93! I didn't even know this existed! It was impressive, and the kids really took this to heart. There are some courageous people in this world. It's wonderful to see real life every day heroes. Our end goal on this highway was to hit Gettysburg. Wow. This place had more statues than anywhere I've EVER been, and I've been to a lot of places! There were statues EVERYWHERE! We camped inside the part area, and I went running in the morning, and there was not a dull moment in that run! Statue after statue after statue! Whew! It was pretty neat...and HOT! Wow! Felt like we were back in Sri Lanka! Hot and humid! We enjoyed seeing some of the battle sites and talking with some of the rangers about the area. I learned a lot about this famous place--the first is that it wasn't a deciding battle--it was just a little one!! Second, that famous speech by Abraham Lincoln? Did you know that he was only asked to come and speak as an afterthought? And when they asked him, they told him to keep his remarks very short! Hence the super 'easy' to memorize Gettysburg Address! But he was NOT the keynote speaker. That guy's speech lasted more than 2 HOURS--and notice that no one remembers that one? Yah. Short and sweet is where it's at. People like that.

Emily's books
by Dan Brown
I like that the plot twists and turns a lot...and it makes you think. However, I don't appreciate Dan Brown's endings in his books. I find the endings incongruent with the rest of his stories--why make it a romance for the last chapter...

I loved this book. I'm a sucker for fairy tales/fantasy. This was so well written! I can't wait to read all the rest of her books!

I'm reading this one again. I liked it the first time I read it. I'm still liking it for the second time around. I like all of Shannon Hales' books.
